We do not know much about Kush shuffleboard tables, but their web site is very vague, and we do know like virtually every brand we compare or know of sold they have a multi-tier distribution policy. The factory gets one price, the resale dealer or retailer charges you another rate. When you buy from retail dealers or resellers then more of what your paying is going into marketing rather than top quality materials and craftsmanship to used in the manufacturing of the product.

Kush Shuffleboards

Manufacturing Location:

Though a little less known Kush Shuffleboard location is in Chattanooga, Tennessee and they have been making shuffleboard tables for a few years. They do not know a lot about the game of shuffleboard but tend to have some creative, unique designs.

Kush Standard Playboard construction :

The main ingredient needed for the best shuffleboard play surface is North American Hard Maple the trees grow in the Eastern United States. Kush Shuffleboards use as standard a 2.25″ thick playboard made of Ambrosia Maple maple with the bar Top epoxy finish. So the net wood is probably a 2″ thick play-board with 1/4 inch of the plastic epoxy.

They do offer an 800 upgrade with an actual hard maple butcher block top with a polymer finish. We highly recommend if you choose to purchase a Kush Shuffleboard you make this choice. We can not testify to the quality and can tell from the image on their web site they have no equipment required to make the shuffleboard butcher block. So typical of virtually all shuffleboard companies they are really a cabinet maker

Where to purchase:

The Kush Shuffleboard tables are sold through many internet retailers and dealers.

You can also purchase directly from the Kush Shuffleboard website.

Table Sizes:

This is where the rubber meets the road, and though they have some nice designs, they know nothing about Shuffleboards. Since 1940’s shuffleboards are measured not by the play-board length but the cabinet. Most their styles come in 9′ 12′, 14′, 16′ play-board lengths. They even offer a 22-foot size play-board in a 22-foot size that standard feature is only 2.25″ thick.

When we restore antique tables that are beyond the tolerance acceptable for a restore and why traditional boards were made 3 inches thick so they could be sanded and resurfaced over the years. We have seen antique 22-foot models with board thickness as low as 2.5″ meaning they have been refinished several times, but this is the minimum thickness.

Shuffleboard Table Price Range:

$2,200 – $18,000 They offer a variety of sizes but restricted on sizes woods and styles most very industrial but they do offer outdoor options with Resin or stone play board. Mostly industrial metalwork rather than fine woodworking.

Shuffleboard Table Comparison · Olhausen VS McClure Tables

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_separator color=”black” border_width=”5″][vc_column_text]

OVERVIEW

We have a lot of respect for the Olhausen company because they’re a family owned and operated business. That sort of thing is becoming less common these days and the fact that they’ve been able to keep the company in the family for several generations is commendable.

Our critique of their tables centers on 2 main concepts.

#1: The Plastic Polymer Playboard Finish. This is a thick plastic epoxy that is poured over the top of your playboard which means you’re essentially playing on plastic. The polymer wears down and can damage easily, and it tends to warp boards. Virtually every shuffleboard manufacturer that uses the poured epoxy doesn’t even bother with a premium hardwood playboard because the end-game is being played on plastic, not the actual wood.

#2: Dealer Networks. In order to purchase the Olhausen Shuffleboard, you’re going to have to buy the table through a dealer of some sort. This means that you’re paying for added shipping and the commission for the dealer.

COMPARING GOOD-BETTER-BEST

Unlike Olhausen Shuffleboards, At McClure Tables, we don’t use a good-better-best pricing model. That’s because we’re a small craft shop. We build and sell direct-to-consumer with no middlemen or distributors. We only use the best materials in every price range. Whether you buy a table for our entry level price of $3,895 or spend up to $28,000, the cabinet, legs, and playboard are all still made from locally harvested Hard Maple.

For comparison purposes, we’ll compare features on three McClure Models in the same price range as the good-better-best marketing approach.

Shuffleboard Table Comparison · Champion VS McClure Tables

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_separator color=”black” border_width=”5″][vc_column_text]

OVERVIEW

Right away, we have to give some kudos to Champion Shuffleboards. They pride themselves on crafting shuffleboard tables in-house, and that is certainly something to be proud of. We’re big fans of the in-house and American Made mentality, a tip of the hat to Champion there.

There are a couple things that we don’t like about Champion Tables.

#1: The Playboard Material. Champion uses “Canadian Maple” in their playboards. Canadian Maple implies hard maple but it’s just a clever marketing tactic. Canadian Maple usually means hard maple but Champion uses Soft Maple, Soft maple wood is easier on presses and faster to sand down, making the building process quicker and cheaper.

#2: The Plastic Polymer Playboard Finish.

COMPARING GOOD-BETTER-BEST

Unlike Champion, At McClure Tables, we don’t use a good-better-best pricing model.

The main difference is Champion manufactures in a mass production fashion and they sell everything they make to resell dealers who have to mark up the factory price or cost to build. At McClure Tables you are buying directly from the craftsmen who build your shuffleboard table.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]

Olhausen Pavilion Shuffleboard Professional Review

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner][vc_single_image image=”33747″ img_size=”large” add_caption=”yes” alignment=”center” style=”vc_box_border”][/vc_column_inner][/vc_row_inner][vc_row_inner css=”.vc_custom_1531845765468{border-top-width: 2px !important;border-bottom-width: 2px !important;border-top-color: #000000 !important;border-top-style: ridge !important;border-bottom-color: #000000 !important;border-bottom-style: ridge !important;border-radius: 5px !important;}”][vc_column_inner][vc_column_text]

FACT CHECK #1: The Playing Surface & “Limited Guarantee”

[/vc_column_text][/vc_column_inner][/vc_row_inner][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner][vc_column_text]This is our first major area of concern with the Olhausen Pavilion. In fact, this is our concern with many similar shuffleboard manufacturers because almost all of them do the same thing. The standard playboard thickness on this model is only 1 1/2″ thick, and 1/4 of that is actually a poured-over plastic polymer (you can upgrade your thickness, but no matter what, you’re still getting the polymer). This is a thick plastic epoxy that is poured over the top of your playboard which means you’re essentially playing on plastic. The polymer wears down and can damage easily, and it tends to warp boards (hence the “limited warranty”). Virtually every shuffleboard manufacturer that uses the poured epoxy doesn’t even bother with a premium hardwood playboard because the end-game is being played on plastic, not the actual wood.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column_inner][/vc_row_inner][vc_row_inner css=”.vc_custom_1531845810874{border-top-width: 2px !important;border-bottom-width: 2px !important;border-top-color: #000000 !important;border-top-style: ridge !important;border-bottom-color: #000000 !important;border-bottom-style: ridge !important;border-radius: 5px !important;}”][vc_column_inner][vc_column_text]

FACT CHECK #2: The Price & Economic Model

[/vc_column_text][/vc_column_inner][/vc_row_inner][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner][vc_column_text]In order to purchase the Olhausen Pavilion, you’re going to have to buy the table through a dealer of some sort. This means that you’re paying for added shipping and the commission for the dealer. Furthermore, many shuffleboard manufacturers will build their playboards in the United States and then ship them overseas to be assembled. The overseas shipping does increase the price of the board (yet another hand in the cookie jar) and the physical shipping process puts stress on the wood.

Now, this particular model sells for around $3,600 – $4,000, which, on the surface, is a pretty affordable price for a shuffleboard. Considering that Olhausen has to get paid, and the dealer selling the table, and all the added costs of shipping… Is this really a $4,000 table?[/vc_column_text][/vc_column_inner][/vc_row_inner][vc_row_inner css=”.vc_custom_1531845840892{border-top-width: 2px !important;border-bottom-width: 2px !important;border-top-color: #000000 !important;border-top-style: ridge !important;border-bottom-color: #000000 !important;border-bottom-style: ridge !important;border-radius: 5px !important;}”][vc_column_inner][vc_column_text]

FACT CHECK #3: Wood Type

[/vc_column_text][/vc_column_inner][/vc_row_inner][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner][vc_column_text]This one is a little more challenging to detect, especially for those buyers that don’t know a lot about wood types. The Olhausen Pavilion comes standard in Maple or Oak. Now, you might say to yourself “Well, Maple and Oak are a good woods, that’s what nice furniture is made from.” You’d only be partially right. Let’s use Maple as an example. You see, there are different types of Maple wood. There is Maple and then there is Hard Maple. Hard Maple scores about 500 points higher on the Janka Scale than regular soft maple. It’s a harder, longer lasting wood which is more difficult (read expensive) to manufacture and ship.  So, many shuffleboard manufacturers just don’t use it. They say “maple” assuming that you won’t know the difference.

On the Pavilion, you do have the option of upgrading to a harder wood though, so at least there’s an option.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column_inner][/vc_row_inner][vc_row_inner css=”.vc_custom_1531845915591{border-top-width: 5px !important;border-bottom-width: 5px !important;border-top-color: #dd3333 !important;border-top-style: ridge !important;border-bottom-color: #dd3333 !important;border-bottom-style: ridge !important;border-radius: 5px !important;}”][vc_column_inner][vc_column_text]

Why pay almost $4,000 for an overpriced, manufactured shuffleboard??? Instead, consider an original handcrafted Liberty Shuffleboard from McClure Tables for up to $2000 LESS!

[/vc_column_text][/vc_column_inner][/vc_row_inner][vc_empty_space height=”20px”][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_single_image image=”33475″ img_size=”large” alignment=”center” style=”vc_box_shadow” onclick=”custom_link” link=”https://www.mccluretables.net/search.aspx?searchterm=parson”][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_column_text]

Not convinced? Let’s share a story from a McClure Tables customer that started his Shuffleboard buying process with a knock-off brand.

We received a phone call one day from a customer named Kevin about purchasing climate adjusters for a shuffleboard table he had purchased on Amazon from a company in China. From his descriptions, he was having serious issues with a crooked second table playboard, to which we had to inform him that climate adjusters just won’t fix, unfortunately. We suggested that he returned the table if he could and seek a replacement from the manufacturer. Thanks to the great customer service Amazon offers, they promptly covered the costs to return the table and Kevin received a replacement shuffleboard. To his surprise, he had further issues with this new replacement and Kevin made the decision to send us a follow-up email to inquire about purchasing a McClure shuffleboard table.

You probably don’t remember me but we spoke on the phone not too long ago. Since we had nenver even seen a shuffleboard table we thought we’d start small (read: cheap) to make sre we like the sport. We found that we love it but we got stuck with an interior Chinese table. They sent us a replacement for free which we’re now sending that one back too. Amazon is paying all costs to get it back to them for a full refund to us. The first table we were told to field destroy. I’m going to take the playing surface out to fashion a bar in the game room.

A short time after receiving his brand new McClure Patriot table, Kevin reached out with another email to express his love and satisfaction with the shuffleboard table he received. He no longer had any issues as we met his needs, it complimented the room he placed it in, and most importantly, it played just the way he wanted it to. An experience we believe every customer should experience when purchasing a shuffleboard table and what we strive for.

I cannot express enough how much we LOVE our Patriot table. I like the Mocha too, it seems to be a nice contrast to the room.

We are 100% satisfied with your service and table. Love how this table plays the way a Shuffleboard Table should. This is our first ‘real’ table experience. Love the slight (20lb paper thick) concave structure, no need for any adjustments.

Fact Checking the Brunswick Parsons

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner][vc_single_image image=”33726″ img_size=”large” alignment=”center” style=”vc_box_border”][/vc_column_inner][/vc_row_inner][vc_row_inner css=”.vc_custom_1531845765468{border-top-width: 2px !important;border-bottom-width: 2px !important;border-top-color: #000000 !important;border-top-style: ridge !important;border-bottom-color: #000000 !important;border-bottom-style: ridge !important;border-radius: 5px !important;}”][vc_column_inner][vc_column_text]

FACT CHECK #1: This table is priced way too high.

[/vc_column_text][/vc_column_inner][/vc_row_inner][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner][vc_single_image image=”33730″ img_size=”large” alignment=”center” style=”vc_box_border”][vc_column_text]We are just going to come right out and say it… You are getting ripped off at this price point. The truth is that Restoration Hardware (the website where this table is being sold) is a division of Pottery Barn. Brunswick is a completely separate company as well. So that makes 3 different companies that will need to get their cut of the sale. What ends up happening is the YOU, the consumer, end up footing the bill so that everyone else can get paid.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column_inner][/vc_row_inner][vc_row_inner css=”.vc_custom_1531845810874{border-top-width: 2px !important;border-bottom-width: 2px !important;border-top-color: #000000 !important;border-top-style: ridge !important;border-bottom-color: #000000 !important;border-bottom-style: ridge !important;border-radius: 5px !important;}”][vc_column_inner][vc_column_text]

FACT CHECK #2: “European Oak” sounds fancy but it’s not a high-quality wood type.

[/vc_column_text][/vc_column_inner][/vc_row_inner][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner][vc_single_image image=”33729″ img_size=”large” alignment=”center” style=”vc_box_border”][vc_column_text]We’ve seen this same marketing trick dozens of times. Many other shuffleboard distributors like to use nice-sounding terms like Tulipwood, Canadian Maple, and even European White Oak. These terms are used to create a false image that the wood they’re using is high-quality, but in truth, it isn’t. So why the funny names? There are actually some macro-level geopolitical games at play and you’re paying the price. As you’ve probably heard, there are some trade issues going on with China and the United States. As a result, it’s more expensive to ship high-quality hardwoods (like true North American Rock Maple) to and from China. So companies that ship their tables overseas to get manufactured are sending lower-quality softwoods to get pass the tariffs.

In the case of the Brunswick Parsons, European White Oak probably is the actual wood type being used for the cabinet, but it’s not as great a wood as it sounds. Those “nicks, knots, and imperfections” are not a sign of character. Neither are the cracks you’ll almost certainly see as well. That’s because it takes a lot of time to kiln dry white oak without cracking it, and as they say, time is money. In reality, they’re trying to “sell” you on the negatives by making them sound positive.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column_inner][/vc_row_inner][vc_row_inner css=”.vc_custom_1531845840892{border-top-width: 2px !important;border-bottom-width: 2px !important;border-top-color: #000000 !important;border-top-style: ridge !important;border-bottom-color: #000000 !important;border-bottom-style: ridge !important;border-radius: 5px !important;}”][vc_column_inner][vc_column_text]

FACT CHECK #3: Let’s be honest, it ain’t 3 inches.

[/vc_column_text][/vc_column_inner][/vc_row_inner][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner][vc_single_image image=”33728″ img_size=”large” alignment=”center” style=”vc_box_border”][vc_column_text]This playboard is not 3 inches thick. There is a quarter inch of plastic polymer poured over the top of a 2.75″ playboard which means you’re essentially playing on plastic. When it comes to your Shuffleboard table’s playing surface, every inch matters. In fact, every quarter inch matters too!

Have you ever been at a tavern or recreation center and played on a board where the pucks just don’t glide well? You’ve probably noticed chips, rough spots, and pucks that always seem to slide toward the edges. Your shuffleboard experience is lessened because the polymer wears down and can damage easily, and it tends to warp boards. The warping is becomes even worse with thinner playboards. Virtually every shuffleboard manufacturer that uses the poured epoxy doesn’t even bother with a premium hardwood playboard because the end-game is being played on plastic, not the actual wood.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column_inner][/vc_row_inner][vc_row_inner css=”.vc_custom_1531845915591{border-top-width: 5px !important;border-bottom-width: 5px !important;border-top-color: #dd3333 !important;border-top-style: ridge !important;border-bottom-color: #dd3333 !important;border-bottom-style: ridge !important;border-radius: 5px !important;}”][vc_column_inner][vc_column_text]

Why pay almost $7,500 for an overpriced made in China Shuffleboard Table??? Instead, consider the original handcrafted Pine Parsons from McClure Tables and save over $2,700!

Manufactured vs. Handcrafted Shuffleboard Comparison

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_separator color=”black” border_width=”5″][vc_column_text]

Shuffleboard Table Comparison · Manufactured & Imported

Amazon · Playcraft · Berner · Plank & Hyde

The game of shuffleboard is growing in popularity and as a result, more companies entering the Shuffleboard Table market. You can now find models that are cheaper or are just knock-off versions of competing models on shopping sites like Amazon.com; we’ve listed a few of these brands above as well. Tables in this category are built with cheaper and softer woods. They are also, many times, manufactured overseas and then shipped to the United States. This allows for a table to be sold at a much cheaper price, but as the old adage goes, “You get what you pay for.”

Unlike these manufactured shuffleboards, At McClure Tables, we don’t use a cost-cutting pricing model. That’s because we’re a small craft shop. We build and sell direct-to-consumer with no middlemen or distributors. We only use the best materials in every price range. Whether you buy a table at our entry level price of $3,295 or spend up to $28,000, the cabinet, legs, and playboard are all still made from locally harvested Hard Maple.

For comparison purposes, we’ll look compare features of an entry-level model. We’ll also give you a much more detailed side-by-side comparison of a knock-off table and our original version.

PLAYBOARD

[/vc_column_text][/vc_column_inner][/vc_row_inner][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1/2″][vc_column_text]

PLAYCRAFT

What they say: Solid 3” thick 20” wide Canada Maple butcher block with pour polymer top

The truth: The plastic polymer top is 1/4″ thick, so their actual playboard is 2.75″ thick, not 3″. The Canadian Maple* wood is first shipped overseas for manufacturing then shipped back to you; that kind of stress on the wood can warp or crack your playboard.

*Canadian Maple does not mean hard maple. China import duties are too high on hard maple and the RF presses they have in China are not powerful enough to work with hard maple. Like Champion and other budget shuffleboard companies, they use the word “Canadian Maple” because they assume the consumer will imply that they are using hard maple.

[/vc_column_text][/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1/2″][vc_column_text]

MCCLURE

What we say: Hard Maple 20″ wide playboard which is a full 3″ thick (no thick plastic poured epoxy top) and made of North American Hard Maple.

The truth: Our playboards are made from 100% North American Hard Maple that is sourced from neighboring counties to our woodshop in Michigan. Our playboards are a full 3″ thick and we don’t use that cheap plastic polymer.

[/vc_column_text][/vc_column_inner][/vc_row_inner][vc_row_inner css=”.vc_custom_1531845810874{border-top-width: 2px !important;border-bottom-width: 2px !important;border-top-color: #000000 !important;border-top-style: ridge !important;border-bottom-color: #000000 !important;border-bottom-style: ridge !important;border-radius: 5px !important;}”][vc_column_inner][vc_column_text]

FINISH

[/vc_column_text][/vc_column_inner][/vc_row_inner][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1/2″][vc_column_text]

PLAYCRAFT

What they say: Pour polymer top

The truth: This is a thick plastic epoxy that is poured over the top of your playboard which means you’re essentially playing on plastic. The polymer wears down and can damage easily, and it tends to warp boards. Virtually every shuffleboard manufacturer that uses the poured epoxy doesn’t even bother with a premium hardwood playboard because the end-game is being played on plastic, not the actual wood.

[/vc_column_text][/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1/2″][vc_column_text]

MCCLURE

What we say: Lifetime Warranty Traditional Piano Polyester Finish (10 times harder than polymer poured resins)

The truth: Years ago we searched for a better way to finish playboards. We now source a high-quality piano polyester finish. This is the same material that is used on fine musical instruments to maintain them for years. It’s thinner and wears much better than the plastic polymer. We are so confident of the quality of this finish that we put a lifetime warranty on it, even for commercial use.

[/vc_column_text][/vc_column_inner][/vc_row_inner][vc_row_inner css=”.vc_custom_1531845840892{border-top-width: 2px !important;border-bottom-width: 2px !important;border-top-color: #000000 !important;border-top-style: ridge !important;border-bottom-color: #000000 !important;border-bottom-style: ridge !important;border-radius: 5px !important;}”][vc_column_inner][vc_column_text]

CABINET CONSTRUCTION

[/vc_column_text][/vc_column_inner][/vc_row_inner][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1/2″][vc_column_text]

PLAYCRAFT

What they say: Select hardwood construction

The truth: The cabinets on this type of shuffleboard are not made with the same hardwood used at a local craft shop. They use particle boards and softwoods like China birch or Rubberwood because it’s easy to sand and machine. At McClure Tables, the hand sanding on each of our hard maple cabinets alone takes up to 4 hours. With softer factory and imported woods, the sanding time can be cut in half.  This is one way they are able to produce a lower-cost option, by cutting corners on the cabinet construction. Again, you still run into the issue of shipping overseas and the stress on the wood.

“One thing that never ceases to amaze me is how we go halfway across the world to get our labor resources for 10 cents on the dollar then we also use the cheapest materials we can find to produce stuff that looks like something that it’s not.” -Todd McClure (founder)

[/vc_column_text][/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1/2″][vc_column_text]

MCCLURE

What we say: All McClure Tables cabinets, legs, and component parts are handmade from the same hard maple wood as the playboards.

The truth: We don’t cut corners when it comes to the cabinet. We use the same North American hard maple wood that makes up your playboard, and all of our designs are hand-crafted in our woodshop.

If your not looking for the original and do not want the premium hard maple or American Cherry Cabinet then we make the Veneto in Tulipwood priced at competitive prices with this import model[/vc_column_text][/vc_column_inner][/vc_row_inner][vc_row_inner css=”.vc_custom_1531845858939{border-top-width: 2px !important;border-bottom-width: 2px !important;border-top-color: #000000 !important;border-top-style: ridge !important;border-bottom-color: #000000 !important;border-bottom-style: ridge !important;border-radius: 5px !important;}”][vc_column_inner][vc_column_text]

Shuffleboard Table Comparison · California House VS McClure Tables

California House is a recreation-game table and bar stool manufacturer located in California. They use high-tech equipment like CNC machines (computer numeric control) and have some nice designs for their game tables. There is a key difference between McClure Tables and California House and it centers at the heart of any shuffleboard table, the playboard. California House uses Beech Wood or Poplar for their playboards, most likely because it would be very costly to ship hard maple wood from Michigan or Pennsylvania to the west coast. They also use Alder Poplar and other soft-woods on their cabinets, not hard maple like we do.

At McClure Tables, we build and sell direct-to-consumer with no middlemen or distributors. We only use the best materials in every price range. Whether you buy a table for our entry level price of $3,295 or spend up to $28,000, the cabinet, legs, and playboard are all still made from locally harvested Hard Maple.

For comparison purposes, we’ll compare features on three McClure Models in the same price range as some California House Models.

[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]McClure Tables are handcrafted in Michigan we do not cut any corners our prices are lower across our line rather you are looking at our in stock models, wholesale direct or custom made. The difference is simply no middle man mark up. If you are trying to compare apples to apples ask a local dealer if they can have a shuffleboard table custom made in a premium hardwood like Hard Rock Maple, American Cherry, Black walnut or even exotic wood like Sapele or Mahogany. Some factory made shuffleboard manufactures can offer these options but you will pay thousands extra for what is standard with our custom line of tables. Why not buy handcrafted rather than factory produced products like California House Shuffleboard Tables.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
