McClure Tables New Line of Shuffleboard Tables and Web Site

McClure Tables is known for building hand crafted shuffleboard tables one at a time. Now would like to announce our latest web site McCluretables.net. Where you will find the same hand crafted quality but in a store front where items are already made in stock and ready to ship. We just launched McCluretables.net to offer three new models of Shuffleboard tables that we make in production run fashion. We engineered these tables to the same high quality standards as you would find any of our handcrafted shuffleboard tables made one at a time.  We started with locally harvested hard maple throughout the construction of each of the three models.

We would like to introduce you to our latest line of Shuffleboard Tables starting first with:

The Liberty Shuffleboard Table

Liberty Shuffleboard TableLiberty Finishes

The Liberty Shuffleboard Table features solid hard maple legs, cabinet and play board. McClure Tables uses the finest locally harvested hard maple to make the play surface in house. We make the play board for the Liberty 2″ thick and 18′ wide to give you still a full width feel and play yet a cabinet that overall width is still less than 25″. Most tables in the starting price point of the Liberty model shuffleboard table only offer a 16″ wide play surface. Experience the full action and fun of an 18″ wide board and choose from black or Chestnut color finish. We stock tables in 12 foot shuffleboard table length as well as 14 foot length shuffleboards. The liberty shuffleboard table is available in all finish options and sizes at McClure Tables.

Quick Ship in Mocha or Chesnut

The Michigander Shuffleboard Table

Michigander Shuffleboard Table

The Michigander model is also made with solid hard maple legs and cabinet with our signature traditional finish play board made with the finest Michigan Hard Maple wood. We process our locally harvested hard maple in house to prepare for glue up and assembly of the complete butcher block hard maple play surface in our state of the art 18 foot Radio Frequency Press. We not only have one of the largest presses in the industry it also boast 45 KW generator which allows us to use hard maple and not compromise quality choosing the lesser stability of soft maple to save money on material and compensate for lower generator press capacity.  We only use the finest Hard Michigan Maple for all our play-boards. The Michigander has a full 20″ wide surface 3″ thick. Each table comes complete with climate adjusters installed and board packed in a crate ready to play. Some assembly is required for the cabinet but for the play board simply lifts out of the crate and into the cabinet cradle and you would be ready to play. The legs and cabinet are all done in hard maple and we stock this table in a 14 foot shuffleboard table lengths and 16 foot size shuffleboards in hand rubbed black finish or Heirloom. We have these in stock for immediate shipment at

The Texan Shuffleboard

Texan Shuffleboard TableTexan Hickory

Last but not least our Texan shuffleboard table we made featuring a solid Hickory Horse collar, Legs and trim on the sub frame. The Texan is made with Michigan hard maple and Hickory wood throughout. We have metal lone star emblems over the solid hard hickory cover over the two cabinet half’s. The Texan shuffleboard table was designed to give the traditional look and feel of the old Rock Ola tables with less of the Retro styling. You get deep massive Horse collars made with beautiful hand selected Hickory giving both the feel and the look for a very traditional shuffleboard game. We have a 3″ 20″ wide board and with our exclusive traditional lifetime warranty finish you get both the old original sound of a weight sliding on hard maple and the flexibility of adjusting the board to your own personal play preference.

McClure Custom Logo Tables

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]

Every so often a client asks us to make a ‘Logo’ table for them.  This simply means we replace our McClure Tables logo with one of the clients choosing. Usually, it’s a company logo but sometimes we’ll do a sports team or even a personalized logo, like a family crest.

To help illustrate the variety of what can be delivered, we made this page. On it, you’ll find many of the custom logos we’ve done and a few stories to go along with some.

Enjoy!

Slalom wins again and so do their employees

Over the past decade, Slalom has steadily accumulated awards in employee satisfaction, even as the company expanded to over twenty offices situated from coast to coast and abroad as well. They have been honored with  Glassdoors’ Best Places to Work award for seven consecutive years (2009 to 2016). They have made Consulting Magazines Best Firms to Work For list in 2014 and 2015. They won the Puget Sound Business Journal #1 Best Place to Work 2014 award as well.

We think the shuffleboard tables might have something to do with it. They order one for the employee lounge every time they open a new office. A practice we heartily approve of.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/3″][vc_single_image image=”32266″ img_size=”medium” alignment=”center” onclick=”link_image”][vc_column_text]

McClure Tables Featured In The Balvenie Rare Craft Collection

The Balvenie Rare Craft Collection

What Is The Balvenie Rare Craft Collection?

The Balvenie Rare Craft Collection is a collection of America’s finest craftsmanship on display in one integrated tour hitting nine cities this fall. The idea was conceptualized by The Balvenie, a unique single malt Scotch company who embodies the idea that craftsmanship is alive and well. They created the Rare Craft Collection on the ideology that if their own distillery can remain true to handcrafted traditions in an age of mass production, then there must be myriad examples of that same passion across America.

Our Involvement

We’re proud to be part of the Balvenie Rare Craft Collection 2014. It’s an honor to be recognized for something that we have preached for so long and take to heart when creating our extensive line of shuffleboard tables and butcher block products. It’s our belief that something that sets us apart from our competitors is our dedication towards quality and zeroing in on the process. Our goal at McClure Tables is not automation of our production process, but refinement. We understand from decades of woodworking experience that craftsmanship is not simply a creed, it’s a way of life.

For this specific project, we handcrafted one of our famous Veneto Shuffleboard tables.

McClure Shuffleboards New Traditional Shuffleboard Playing Surface Finish

We have been in the game room industry for over 35 years. Most of that past was in the sales and service of billiard tables, game tables, and shuffleboard tables. I started as a billiard mechanic (someone who installs and repairs pool tables) when I was 19 years old. During our history we have had retail stores in Arizona and Texas but for the last 7 years we have focused exclusively on the manufacture and sales of shuffleboard tables available on our web site. Throughout our history we have heard the pros and cons of the polymer epoxy – bar top – poured type shuffleboard finish. At one time in Texas when we ran our retail store, we sold some game room furniture to a customer and was asked if we could move his shuffleboard from his old house to his new game room. He had about a 40 to 50 year old American Shuffleboard® and it was probably in a commercial location before he placed it in his home.

He asked if we could get the top refinished and we said, “Sure.” At the time, we called up Champion Shuffleboard® since they were in Texas and they gave us a price to have the board refinished with a new polymer top. They did a real nice job on the top but once installed it took less than one hour before the customer was calling us and asking to have it removed and bring back his old finish. He did not like the epoxy. It was not what he was used to. We called Champion Shuffleboard® but they did not do a traditional finish. They did refer us to a person who ran a repair route in Oklahoma that would go around to commercial locations and refinish boards or switch them out with a traditionally finished board. Once we got him a new top with a traditional finish he was very happy. We would like to point out here some of the things we have known about the difference from other finishes and exactly why the polymer tops are offered and prevail. The main reason was for commercial use. The type of lacquers and shellacs that were used 50 to 60 years ago simply couldn’t stand up to heavy use. The top surface would wear off after a few years and the board surface would need a new finish.

However, in the past they used all hard maple to make the board tops so they were resistant to the dings and dents when people dropped pucks on the board so wood remained in good shape and only the chemical coating needed replacement. I have seen boards that were in a commercial location for maybe up to 10 years and then in a customers home for 50 years still with the original finish or at best one extra coat of shellac put on top at one time. These boards have a few dents and dings but if we get one that is 60 years old in this good of shape we simply scuff sand it and apply a new finish. There is no need to sand down the top in a planner/sander machine and put on a completely new finish. How can we tell if the board has ever been ran though a sander and/or planner and resurfaced? It is simple; the original old boards were all hard rock maple and a full 3′ thick. Less than indicates work has been done. The main reason for this was that the board would be resurfaced a few times over its history and that 3’ thickness would allow for a new surface sanding through a machine periodically. I have seen old boards that were only 2.5 inches thick so they may have been a few times throughout their history.

Today many boards are made out of soft maple and because they pour an epoxy top over the wood, any impact on dents and dings will have no impact on the softer nature of the soft maple. However this epoxy is basically like a sheet of Plexiglas. The main reason manufacturers use soft maple is that it is less expensive, and easier on the machine tools for cutting and planning. Also if they are using a radio frequency press to glue up the boards, they can get by with a lower wattage generator since soft maple is easier to glue up and laminate. One other feature of the polymer top boards is they do not have to fill in or sand the top prior to pour the polymer with as much care because slight imperfections will be covered with the plastic. The polymer is a poured epoxy in a liquid form and it will self level and fill in any slight variations in the top. They will also surface the board down to 2 and ¾ inch thick before the pour the polymer so they can often start with boards that are only 3′ wide when they manufacture the board. With the traditional type finish we use hard maple wood just like they did 60 years ago, so it is resistant to dents and dings.

We also have to start with wood that is 3 ¼ inch thick as after we surface before the finish it will net out at a full 3 inches thick. We also have to take much more care to fill in and make sure the top is perfectly flat and surfaced both top and bottom with no imperfections prior to the finish work. With todays new finish materials you have surfaces that you can lay down 3 to 4 mils thick that are virtually either 100 percent solids or virtually all solids. We worked with our finish supplier to come up with a formula that we were confident enough to give a lifetime warranty but still retail the natural feel and beauty of the maple wood. We still offer the polymer type tops and in the case of people who want a logo on their board we have to use the poured polymer. We also will offer the polymer upon request but McClure tables makes so many traditional style shuffleboard tables.

Many are replicas of shuffleboards made in the late 40’s and 50’s so we made the decision to switch to a traditional finish on all our shuffleboard playing surfaces. Not only can you see the difference but you can also hear the difference see our latest shuffleboard YouTube video here or see below on the features of our new finish:

Veneto Shuffleboard Table New Contemporary Design

McClure Tables is always creating new designs and styles for our selection of handcrafted shuffleboard tables. Sometimes we are inspired by game tables, end tables, or other furniture designs. We recently had a home builder who was doing a custom game room and had several pieces that he was looking to match. Some of our existing styles and designs of shuffleboards came close to what he was looking for, but noting was an exact fit. “I don’t build in order to have clients. I have clients in order to build”. This is how we feel at McClure Tables we love to build, we love to work with wood and we love to create. This is our latest creation the Veneto shuffleboard.

Veneto 14 Foot Shuffleboard Table Deer Creek Finish
McClure Shuffleboard Table, Veneto Shuffleboard
Veneto 14 foot Shuffleboard in Cinnamon Finish

This table name was named after the norther region of Veneto Italy. This shuffleboard model features a shaped side apron with a slight taper and bottom angle with the top trimmed with cove molding. The entire table is made out of Michigan hard rock maple. This is the same wood we use for our shuffleboard tops and the same wood we use for most of our cabinets.

The legs are made with solid hard maple. On both the front and back with the center curved parts are done with bending ply and select hard maple veneer. We custom make all our shuffleboard tables at McClure tables; they are not mass produced in a huge factory with impersonal CNC machines doing the work. They are hand crafted by our skilled craftsmen one at a time with the care and attention that only a hand made shuffleboard table will provide. We are one of only two shuffleboard manufacturers in the world who do not use any contract manufacturing to make our butcher block tops. We process the hard maple wood, press them all in house, and glue up the entire shuffleboard playing surface at our own factory. Most other companies simply buy the boards and do different parts of the shuffleboard construction, mostly mass produce cabinets and some finish work on the shuffleboard tops and cabinet.

Shuffleboard Table Veneto

This close up angle shot shows the side apron shape and moldings that make up this new shuffleboard table now available on our Web site. We also offer a different leg style with a criss cross base and we did this model below in a contemporary two tone finish with our Mocha and Natural Maple. This table was sold to a customer who wants us to do it in all solid Mocha black so we will update an image of the table in solid black color soon.

As with all McClure Tables, each Veneto is handcrafted and custom made so you can choose any finish, style, or design for a truly personal custom shuffleboard table.

Ultimate Game Room with Rock-Ola Classic American Made Shuffleboard

McClure Tables delivered and installed two tables in Fort Wayne, Indiana today. At McClure Tables, we handcraft all of our tables in Grand Rapids, Michigan. If you are near Grand Rapids we welcome you to visit our shuffleboard factory. You will see many shuffleboard tables in production. Recently two customers from Fort Wayne Indiana made the 3 hour drive to see the McClure Tables factory. We made each of them a custom handcrafted shuffleboard table. The installation was supervised by both Todd McClure, the owner of McClure Tables, and a local shuffleboard pro from Fort Wayne, Indiana. He was very impressed with the quality of the McClure shuffleboard tables. The local pro gave both customers some tips on how to make shots, how to hold the puck, and how to guide the puck down the table.

Shuffleboard Table Tips

The customers were excited to learn the different shots, strategy and tips this local pro provided with this installation. He is a top rated player and was very impressed with the quality of McClure shuffleboard tables. He mentioned two other larger national companies that in his opinion were not nearly as well constructed at the McClure shuffleboard tables. As the owner I was happy to have him come along on our installations and give the customers some tips on how to play the game. It was a nice added feather that we offer our customers when a local shuffleboard pro is available.

This was the first table installed today in Fort Wayne then the second table that was installed was a 22 foot full size Rock-Ola classic reproduction with an authentic score unit. McClure Tables manufactures all our tables in our very own factory and we take great pride in handcrafting each shuffleboard we make. This is the most impressive game room to date that has a Rock-Ola shuffleboard table. You will not find too many game rooms that have a classic Viper car parked beside a classic Rock-Ola Shuffleboard.

Rock-Ola Shuffleboard Table

Here is another shot of the game room from another angle. The Rock-Ola table is made out of solid maple, with green glass inlay diamonds, stainless steel trim and covers. The Rock-Ola score pole is done in a green colored powder coating to match the green in the Rock-Ola logo and the green glass diamond inlays. This table is an authentic reproduction that is exactly like the original models made in 1948 and 1949.

You may not have a viper in your game room but you can buy a Rock-Ola Shuffleboard Table

McClure shuffleboard tables are all handcrafted in Michigan and you can learn more about our tables and even purchase a shuffleboard for your game room on our web site.
